Patricia A. Cocchia, Esq.
Patricia A. Cocchia was born Patricia Ann Hommel in Bronx, New York. Patty’s family moved to Orange County when she was an infant, so she is a true native of the Hudson Valley. Patty knew at a young age that she wanted to be be an attorney. She studied criminal justice and advanced placement english and writing classes at Newburgh Free Academy, which was a nationally recognized high school of excellence her sophomore year. She went on to graduate in the top five percent of her class. While working full time in the retail industry, she then received her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1993 where she was a member of the Dean’s List and Phi Sigma Alpha: The National Political Science Honor Society. At nineteen, she landed an entry level position with DC 37 Municipal Employees Legal Services in New York City, where she worked her way up during and after college to summer associate during law school. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Pace University School of Law, while working full time in New York City. At Pace Law, Patty was a member of the Dean’s List and the Gaelic Law Society.
Upon graduation from law school and passing the New York and Connecticut bar exams, Patty practiced several years with the Westchester law firm of Katz & Katz, P.C., where she traveled extensively representing several major residential lending institutions as bank counsel in multi-million dollar transactions, including Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. After several years with Katz & Katz, Patty married and then joined the Orange County law firm of Bonacic, Blustein & Krahulik, LLP, which dissolved in 2004, creating two new firms. Patty remained with the partners who formed Blustein, Shapiro & Rich, LLP, where she handled real estate matters, estate planning and the general practice of law. In March 2005, Patty started her own general law practice, concentrating in the area of real estate, wills and estates, matrimonial law, civil litigation. Patty’s forte’ has always been representing lenders, currently representing First Niagara Mortgage, MetLife formerly known as First Horizon, Wells Fargo, Flagstar Bank, Citimortgage, Everbank (formerly BNY Mortgage), Suntrust Mortgage, Florida Capital Bank Mortgage, Carnegie Mortgage and various other wholesale lenders for local mortgage brokers. However, do to changes in the industry, her new forte’ has become representing sellers in short sale transactions and mortgage modifications.
Patty is admitted to the Connecticut and New York State Bars and maintains an active practice in New York. She is a member of the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties and of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York. She is also a member of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
